Handcrafted from a solid piece of natural volcanic stone, this one-of-a-kind athame is ideal for directing energy. It's made from Mexican Obsidian, widely regarded to be the finest in the world. The heavy black blade tapers to a sharp point, and its glossy surface could also be used for scrying. The handle is decorated with a carved abstract stone head. (Exact details vary from piece to piece--see photos.)
This stunning item has an iridescent sheen effect that is caused by tiny glass bubbles trapped in the cooling lava. It looks silver or gold from some angles and jet black from others. The inclusions shimmer when the object is moved and are simply hypnotic!
Stone athames are often favored by Faery and Shamanic practitioners who do not wish to use a metal knife. Obsidian blades are also used in some Native American and Meso-American traditions.
This knife is intended for ceremonial/decorative use and isn't actually sharp enough to cut anything (although the tip is very pointy and should still be handled with care)! The back is flat, and has the removable "Hecho in Mexico" sticker that identifies genuine Mexican Obsidian.
Overall dimensions: Approx. 8 in x 1.5 in

Black Obsidian is a kind of natural glass, formed by rapidly cooling volcanic lava. Obsidian has been used as a scrying medium for thousands of years, since the time of the Aztecs. Obsidian is reputed to be a psychically protective stone, helping to cleanse negativity and dispel falsehood. Because it is an ingenous rock, it contains the energies of both Earth and Fire. It may aid in stimulating gifts of spirit contact and prophecy.
