The Elder is a sacred tree associated with wisdom, protection, witches, and the Otherworld. The berries and flowers of the Elder tree are a popular flavoring for wine and cordials, and are much-loved by Faeries. In Wicca, this thorny long-lived tree is associated with the Crone or Elder Mother.

In folk magic, a few Elder berries placed under a doormat are said to keep evil away. An infusion of Elder berries makes a powerful cleansing wash. Scattering the leaves or berries to the four winds will invite the protection of friendly spirits. Not packaged for food use.
