AIrish Moss isn't a moss at all, but a dried red algae gathered from the shores of the Atlantic. It is an ingredient in traditional Celtic charms for money, luck, and protection. When placed beneath doormats, for instance, it is said to ensure a steady flow of money into a dwelling and keep evil away. Because Irish Moss always returns to the shore, it is carried in protective charms for fishermen and sailors at sea.
