Fumitory (common name: Earthsmoke) is an herb of consecration, counter-magick, and purification. It has been used as an incense and medicinal herb since ancient times. Ritual uses include exorcising evil and blessing magickal tools.

Fumitory, a distant relative of the Poppy, is usually attributed to Saturn. The Greeks who gave it its name believed that Fumitory was not propagated by seed, but by smoke rising from cracks in the ground. It is an excellent ingredient in herbal blends for Samhain.
